Gisella Vetere – Cerebral Codes and Circuits Connectivity (C4)
How are memories encoded in the brain, and how do their neural representations evolve over time ? Our team investigates the cellular and circuit mechanisms underlying memory formation, consolidation, and retrieval, with a particular focus on how memories are represented across distributed brain networks.
We study how distinct neuronal ensembles (memory engrams) contribute to the specificity and generalization of memories, and how their activity and interactions change as memories become remote. Our research combines activity-dependent neuronal tagging, optogenetics, chemogenetics, in vivo calcium imaging, behavioral approaches, and brain-wide network analyses to dissect the neural codes and circuits supporting memory.
